Where To Watch Star Wars Visions

The Best Three Episodes Of Star Wars: Visions Anime On Disney+

Star Wars: Visions | English Dub Trailer | Disney+

The newly released Star Wars anthology on Disney Plus is the franchises first formal venture into Japanese anime

By now youd have seen plenty of social media chatter on Visions, the Star Wars anime anthology newly released on Disney+. The ambitious series is an unprecedented project involving seven animation studios based in Japan, who were given the freedom to create a standalone story each with original characters in the Star Wars universe.

For people who love both anime and Star Wars, the collaboration was a dream come true but many fans were also understandably wary of Visions potentially becoming just another throwaway spin-off. However, as producers of the show put it, George Lucass original Star Wars films were heavily influenced by Japanese storytelling, including the masterpieces of Akira Kurosawa. By allowing the anime studios to take artistic liberties in their storytelling, Star Wars: Visions became a triumphant fresh take on the franchise that also explores the backstories of the galactic chronicles.

Because theyre made by different studios, the nine episodes in the series all vary in artistic style and creative vision. Its worth watching all of them to enjoy the different narratives, but these three episodes are a standout.

Should I Watch Star Wars: Visions

Outside of its fantastic artwork, Visions has some of the best stories Star Wars has had in years. Not everything is as powerful as the aforementioned episodes, but they’re all entertaining. There are beautiful, moving moments alongside bat-sh*t fight scenes in episodes such as The Duel.

After Rise of Skywalker sucked the hope out of Star Wars future, Visions injects the series with a fresh batch of it. I actively want to see more of these characters. I want to see Kara grow into a full-fledged Jedi. A series following Fs journey to fight for peace while avoiding the empire could be amazing.

Visions explores the Star Wars universe in new ways instead of rehashing stuff we’ve already seen before. Unlike other shows that continually rehash with returning characters, Visions makes the universe seem as massive as it should. Star Wars is no longer a massive universe with a collection of established heroes and villains, its expansive and unique again.

Tatooine Rhapsody By Studio Colorido

If you enjoyed Studio Coloridos entry in the Visions anthology, you should definitely check out Penguin Highway. A feature film from Studio Colorido, Penguin Highway is a surreal and affecting adaptation of a beloved sci-fi novel. After penguins start to appear in his suburb far from the sea, 4th-grade genius Aoyama becomes intent on figuring out whats up. Aoyama must untangle the mystery of these peculiar penguinsand how they are connected to the new dental technician that Aoyama has an outsized crush on. This delightful film is a good coming of age story suitable for early teens.

You might also check out another Studio Colordio project, A Whisker Away.In this curious blend of slice-of-life school years and magical, middle-schooler Miyo Sasaki finds a mask that allows her to transform into a cat to capture the attention of her classmate, Hinode.

A Whisker Away streams on Netflix.

Watch: First Look At Star Wars: Visions Anime Series Released

Heres your first look at what has to be the most unique entry in the Star Wars canon that Disney has served up to date. Coming this September is Star Wars: Visions, an anime anthology series which comes from many of the biggest anime studios around. This Sunday, Disney Plus released a special featurette previewing the show, which you can check out in the player above.

As exec producer James Waugh points out this preview, Japanese animation and Japanese cinema, as a whole, it has to be said have had a huge impact on Star Wars from the beginning so its only right that there should be an anime-inspired series set in the galaxy far, far away. Whats more, the varied talent involved in the project is just the icing on the cake. This featurette confirms the seven studios whove produced shorts for Visions, including Kinema Citrus , Trigger and Production IG .

Unlike practically every other facet of the franchise, Visions wont be preoccupied with how it fits into established canon, with each installment of the nine-part season roving around the timeline, introducing new characters, bringing back familiar faces and telling a range of stories in different styles and genres. For instance, one episode, titled Tatooine Rhapsody, is even being described as a rock opera style film.

Heres the full list of episode titles and the studios behind them:

I Dont Think Its A Secret

Star Wars Visions Episode 1 Best Scenes “The Duel”

While in conversation with Geek Culture, executive producer James Waugh explained the origins and reason for sculpting Visions

Were all really big fans of anime. Its something thats really influenced a lot of us and I dont think its a secret. You kind of see it in a lot of the work thats been done at Lucasfilm. The whole point of creating the Visions framework was to allow a framework for this type of fun celebratory storytelling to exist alongside any of our animation thats tried and true.

He also gave an important shout-out to the series home: Doing anthology shorts isnt something weve done before and we probably wouldnt have had the opportunity to do it if it wasnt for Disney+.

Reflecting on James earlier comments, its definitely not a secret that Star Wars has been influenced by Japanese media from the start. Many fans will already know that the original movie was hugely influenced by Akira Kurosawas The Hidden Fortress.

Star Wars fans have been flush with new content since The Bad Batch made its premiere on May 4 just ahead of the summer. For months, viewers went on an adventure with Clone Force 99 and Omega which ended with a renewal for a season 2. Now, its Star Wars: Visions turnto step up to the plate and pull focus as fans are once again delving into a new project set in this vast franchise.

What makes this series standout, however, isnt just that its an anthology but also that its one depicted in varying anime styles. The Japanese art form has never before been a medium that Star Wars tales have been told through so its an exciting time for anime and Star Wars fans.

Will ‘star Wars Visions’ Be Released Weekly Episode Schedule

Star Wars Visions Show / »Star Wars: Episode VII« in Dolby Vision und ...

Star Wars: Visions is a new animated Star Wars series unlike any weve seen to date. Obviously the storytelling style and format set it apart from recent shows like Star Wars: The Bad Batch and Star Wars Rebels. Unlike those shows, Visions is an anthology series comprised of 9 short films that were all produced by top-tier anime studios. The series is also unlike anything weve seen before in that those studios were allowed to tell stories outside of continuity, meaning they could go anywhere and do anything they wanted.

Still, Star Wars has a very clear timeline of events. The Sith and the Jedi and the Empire all rose and fell and rose and fell at specific times in the canon. That means its possible to figure out when you are by looking at what forces are in play. Thats why fans are always interested in knowing when certain shows and movies take placeeven if their status as canon is in question. With that in mind, lets try to unravel the mystery that is Star Wars: Visions.
