About Walmart Vision Center

In 2019, Walmart was the third largest distributor of optical goods in the United States. This was accomplished through Walmart Vision Centers located inside physical stores and through online shopping.

If you have a Walmart where you live, chances are youve seen a special section of the store with an optometry department. You can get your eyes checked, prescription updated, and shop for glasses and contacts.

The website allows you to order nonprescription readers and sunglasses that you may not find in the store. Walmart also sells contacts online through a separate website called Walmart Contacts.

Are Eye Exams At Walmart The Same As Everywhere Else

For the most part, yes. A routine eye exam with one of Walmarts independent optometrists will be used to update your vision prescription and check your eye health using the same methods as almost any other routine eye exam.

Walmart doctors, along with doctors at other stores with optical centers, offer what is called a comprehensive eye exam. This painless process will test most or all of the following:

  • Fluid pressure inside your eyes

  • How well your eyes move together

  • Your side vision

The four main refractive errors nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia are the most common reasons people schedule an eye exam with an optometrist.

Most cases of mild or moderate refractive error can be easily corrected using prescription glasses or contact lenses. Youll receive your vision prescription after your eye exam.

Do They Accept All Types Of Insurance

NJ Eye Care

Most.

I dug around on their website and discovered that Walmart Vision Center takes most major insurance providers.

Apparently only the following providers are considered Out-of-Network which means theyll cover less.

  • Cole Managed Vision

Id contact your local Walmart eye center if you have any specific questions related to your insurance.

Walmart Vision Center: 8 Things You Gotta Know Before You Visit

Getting an eye exam and a new pair of eyeglasses doesnt have to be expensive if you play your cards right. Enter the Walmart Vision Center where you can get an eye exam and a new pair of prescription glasses for under $100. Even less if youre not super picky about frame style and brand. So I went out and did the research to figure out exactly how the eye center at Walmart works and here are all the things you GOTTA know before you show up.

Eye Exam Price With Insurance

Walmart Vision Center only accepts insurance for eye exams and in-store purchases, and online purchases are not covered. To check if Walmart covers your insurance, call a location near you.

Walmart is an out-of-network provider for the following insurances:

  • Cole Managed Vision

However, you can always submit reimbursement for these insurance providers by filling out an out-of-network reimbursement form, using a Walmart itemized receipt, and sending it to your insurance provider.

Walmart will not directly bill your insurance provider, and you will need to ensure that you keep your receipt and submit it through the methods required by your provider.

If youre unsure about your benefits, contact your insurance provider before visiting Walmart so that you understand how much is covered for eye exams and how much is covered for prescription glasses or contact lenses.

Walmart is a good place to get an eye exam without insurance with a certified optometrist. Additionally, at Walmart, you can purchase glasses without an insurance plan.

How Long Does It Take To Get Glasses From Walmart Vision Center

Walmarts website has been updated, and you can now order only frames online. You wont be able to add your custom prescription and have ready-to-use glasses delivered to your door. Instead, you can order your prescription glasses in-store or order your frames online and have the lenses replaced later.

On average, you can expect your glasses to take about a week to arrive whether you order frames online or prescription lenses in-store. Of course, the delivery time can vary greatly and may take up to three weeks for complex prescriptions.

According to Walmarts website, 98% of all US orders arrive within the 7-10 day delivery time stated on our website. However, the vast majority of orders that are shipped from stock will arrive significantly sooner. I found this claim on Walmarts FAQ page regarding contact lenses the website doesnt mention specific delivery times for glasses.

Expedited shipping is available forcontact lenses for $11.95. I wasnt able to find an expedited option online for glasses.

Convenience And A Wide Range Of Products

One thing you will notice is that the vision centers are easily accessible. When you compare these to visiting your eye doctor, you may find that the centers are more convenient. This convenience drives many people to the centers.

However, that is not all that drives traffic to Walmart. They also have a broad range of products which you may not find in other places. From lenses to frames, you have a lot of variety from which you can choose. If you have dealt with limited availability in the past, you will be happy to know that this is not the case. And with this extensive range, you get to enjoy fair market prices.

Also, you will love that you can walk in without making an appointment. That allows you to visit the centers at your convenience as you shop for glasses and lenses. The downside to this is that making special orders can be a bit difficult. That is not to say that it is impossible.

You should note that the centers focus on offering reasonable items to their customers. As such, if you are in the market for high quality at a hefty price, they may not be the best option in your case.
