CAUTION

Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.

ATTENTION

Please see Directions for Use for a complete list of Indications and Important Safety Information.

INDICATIONS

The TECNIS® Multifocal 1-Piece intraocular lenses are indicated for primary implantation for the visual correction of aphakia in adult patients with and without presbyopia in whom a cataractous lens has been removed by phacoemulsification and who desire near, intermediate, and distance vision with increased spectacle independence. The intraocular lenses are intended to be placed in the capsular bag.

RISKS

No matter what lens you choose, there are risks or problems that can happen with cataract surgery. The problems could be minor, temporary, or affect your vision permanently. Complications are rare and may include the worsening of your vision, bleeding, or infection. There are also tradeoffs with receiving a multifocal lens. Whereas your use of glasses may decrease, it may come at the cost of some sharpness of your vision. Even with glasses, this loss of sharpness may become worse under poor visibility conditions such as dim light or fog. You may also notice more halos or glare , which are more common with multifocal IOLs than monofocal IOLs. Call your eye doctor right away if you experience any itching, pain, flashing lights, floaters, redness, severe headache, nausea/vomiting, light sensitivity, or watery eyes after surgery.

Vision Simulator Based On Contact Prescription

Both tunable lenses could be controlled independently, and synchronized by a single custom high-speed Arduino-based electronic driver. The tunable lens is optically conjugated with the subjects pupil utilizing a pair of achromatic doublets of 50 mm EFL. A Schmidt-Pechan prism is used to render the image erect and aligned with the line of sight, without affecting the optical quality. However, the application of this prism limited the effective visual field from 20 to 12 degrees. For each channel, a diaphragm placed next to the tunable lens acted as artificial pupil. Binocular monofocal corrections led to distance-dependent perceptual judgments.

Have you ever wondered what your child can easily see at school or throughout their beloved sporting activities? A child thats myopic or near-sighted will have difficulty seeing the whiteboard or smart screen in the classroom the severe nature of which will be determined by their prescription.

Optical Express Launches Sight Simulator Based On Prescription

Online tool to show benefits of laser eye surgery and gain an insight into loved ones sight conditions

08 June 2015

Optical Express has launched a new online eye sight simulator tool, which uses a patients sight prescription details.

Going live today at Eye Sight Simulator, the tool aims to help those with poor vision to realise the potential benefits of laser eye surgery, and enables users to experience the quality of vision that their loved ones have.

On using the tool, visitors are asked to input either their own, or someone elses prescription details, specifying the sphere, cyl and axis numbers of both the left and right eye. After uploading their own photo, or selecting a generic picture from the sites gallery, an image is then generated.

The tool simulates how the chosen image would be seen by those with a specific prescription, next to how the same image could look with improved vision.

Those who have poor vision and rely on spectacles or contact lenses are able to use the simulator to determine how much their sight would improve were they to choose the option of laser eye surgery, according to the company.

Online director of opticalexpress.co.uk, Tom Fotheringham, said: We are really excited to be launching this new eye sight simulator to the general public. First of all, it will help those who know someone suffering from poor vision or an eyesight affliction to further understand just how much of the world their loved one can see naturally.

Indications And Important Safety Information For The Tecnis 1

CAUTION

Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.

ATTENTION

Reference the Directions for Use for a complete listing of indications and important safety information.

INDICATIONS

TECNIS® 1-Piece lenses are indicated for the visual correction of aphakia in adult patients in whom a cataractous lens has been removed by extracapsular cataract extraction. These devices are intended to be placed in the capsular bag.

WARNINGS

Existing eye conditions and surgical difficulties may increase the risk of complications. Your doctor will determine if you are a good candidate for lens replacement.

PRECAUTIONS

If your eye is not healthy, you may not get the full benefits of the TECNIS® 1-Piece IOL. Before surgery your doctor will check to see if you have any eye diseases. If you wear contact lenses, your doctor may ask you to stop wearing them before being tested for the lens. Your doctor will tell you what activities to avoid while you are recovering from surgery. A monofocal lens may give you excellent far vision, but you may still need glasses for activities requiring near vision.

SIDE EFFECTS

In less than 4% of patients, side effects of cataract surgery with the 1-Piece IOL included macular edema, a swelling/thickening of an area of the retina. In less than 1% of patients, there was a need for a second surgery to replace, reposition, or remove the new lens or to repair structures of the eye.

What Our Patients Are Saying

My experience at EMG was one of the best. The staff was friendly and informative. I felt very comfortable with the entire experience. All my questions were answered and explained.

I have been visiting Dr. Samuel Solish here and I’ve found the staff attentive, the waiting times were short, and the treatment was first rate. The examinations were thorough and the explanations were easy to understand, and they never hurried me. And as an added bonus, it’s near the Portland Transportation Center, so I can travel most of the way via a bus.-Pancho Cole

Vision is a complex system that requires specific subspecialists working together to maintain healthy eyes and good vision for the patient. Optometry plays a key role in this. Think of the optometrist as your primary care provider of the eye world. Do you see an orthopedic surgeon for your annual physical exam or instead, do you see a Primary Care Physician ? Your optometrist is the PCP of your vision. They evaluate the health of the eye and visual system working with you to isolate any potential issues. When appropriate the optometrist will refer and co-manage with sub-specialty ophthalmologists.

A Glasses Prescription Will Not Tell You Exactly How A Person Sees

Similar to how a drug prescription will not tell you everything about how a person functions without those drugs, a glasses prescription cant tell you everything about how a person sees without their glasses. A glasses prescription willtell you what shape the lenses on a pair of glasses or contacts should be in order to have the best possible corrected vision. This is based on how much the shape of the eye differs from what it should be to see clearly . Some of the reasons why someone may see differently than their glasses prescription implies include:

  • Hyperopic children can often compensate for much of their hyperopia, allowing them to see relatively clearly. This does cause eye strain and can pull the eyes out of alignment, which is why glasses are still important.
  • Amblyopia is when a person does not see clearly even when glasses or contacts are correcting for the full refractive error. Generally this is due to the brain suppressing the vision from one or both eyes. It can be caused by the eyes not lining up, an eye having an injury, or one eye having a much stronger refractive error than the other.
  • There may be other problems in the visual system that is causing vision problems.

Vision Simulators Based On Prescription

Good

As I mentioned, vision simulators based on a glasses prescription are flawed at best. Even the very good ones will only show you an approximation of how someone with no other vision issues would see with that prescription. That said, the simulators can give you a feel for how strong a prescription is, and how different refractive errors effect vision.

  • Eyeland Web Tools there are different simulators for different refractive errors. Many children have a spherical component as well as an astigmatism component. I like that these allow you to see how those different components affect vision.
  • They also have simulators for cataracts, glaucoma, and a few other vision diseases.
  • Sehschärfen Simulator this site is in German, but is still pretty straight forward to use. One of the features is that it changes the simulation based on a persons age, so that the effects of hyperopia are reduced for young children. This means if your child has a + prescription, you may think from this simulator that your child shouldnt need glasses. This simulator will not show you how much eye strain a child will have due to hyperopia.
  • Enter your childs age in the Alter box
  • Enter the spherical and cylinder amounts
  • The top image is the simulated vision, the bottom image is what would be considered normal vision.

Other Visual Simulations Of Eye Diseases

    • Fork in the Road sells vision simulators for many eye diseases resulting in low vision. This includes cataracts , glaucoma, and more.
    • Inclusive Design Kit from the University of Cambridge also has a simulator for many vision problems.
    • Causes of Color includes a vision simulator for various types of color blindness and cataracts.

Frequently Asked Question: What Does My Child See A Few Vision Simulators With Caveats

utilizing the medication, the less nearsighted theyll be as adults. Those with myopia are also at greater risk for other eye conditions because they age, such as retinal holes and retinal detachments. Its important to realize that while myopia is progressive and there is no cure, its possible to use the latest treatments available from your own eye doctor to control the advancement of the problem. Called myopia management, there are various different ways to greatly help slow as well as stop the progression of ones childs myopia before it worsens. First, be sure you take your son or daughter to your optometrist at least once a year in early childhood, whenever a vision test can spot the initial signs of myopia.

    • Experience healthy vision, then use your mind movement to spotlight a condition to see its effect on your sight.
    • Because presbyopia is a natural change, it affects nearly 100 percent of people over age 45.
    • In this work, we present a binocular, portable, see-through, wide field of view and programmable vision simulator that optically simulated various presbyopic corrections.
    • Conversely, red dots indicate that the design on the y-axis was significantly rejected.
    • The far and intermediate scenes were projected in the upper visual field and the near visual scene was projected in the inferior visual field .
