Vision And Scarlet Witch Comic

How Will Vision Quest Be Different In The Mcu

Scarlet Witch & Vision vs The Black Order | The Avengers: Infinity War

It’s not hard to imagine how Vision Quest may be adapted to the MCU, though it is also fair to say many of the bigger plot points of the original comic story already happened in WandaVision.

That said, what hasnt been adapted yet is the storys second act, the part that shows what happens when a changed Vision returns to the Avengers.

Wandas grief over the loss of her family has already been explored through WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

But the story of Visions larger arc, and the impact of the events of WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness on the rest of the Avengers has yet to be told, potentially giving Vision Quest the same kind of character and development to the Vision the WandaVision gave to the Scarlet Witch.

There’s also the question of how Vision Quest will fit into the larger MCU – as well as whether it will connect to the other already announced WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos, featuring the show’s villain Agatha Harkness. And of course, with a Wonder Man streaming series reportedly in the works as well, there could be a whole WandaVision corner of the MCU brewing.

Vision & Scarlet Witch Vol. 2, the story that led to Vision Quest, is one of the best Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch stories ever.

The origin of the Vision!

/10 Avengers: West Coast Follows Wanda After Losing Her Children

The second volume of Vision and the Scarlet Witch led to the duo joining the West Coast Avengers. The most significant occurrence here takes place in Avengers West Coast #52 by John Byrne. This issue has Mephisto revealing that Tommy and Billy, Wanda’s children, were created with an energy he generated, and he reabsorbs them–effectively killing them.

Agatha Harkness wiped Wanda’s memory of Tommy and Billy to stop the pain, but Wanda would later remember them. She has a breakdown over this later when she’s manipulated by Magneto into fighting the Avengers.

Return To The Avengers

The Childrens Crusade

The teenage mystical hero Wiccan and his team, the Young Avengers, meet a teenage superhuman Speed. Speed, whose name is Tommy, looks like he could be Wiccans twin, except that his hair is silver. Although he and Speed were born to different families years before the Scarlet Witchs marriage to Vision, Wiccan concludes the two of them might somehow be reincarnations of Wandas lost children Thomas and William. The Young Avengers, Magneto, Quicksilver, and the Avengers all try to locate Wanda, eventually finding her amnesiac in Latveria and engaged to Doctor Doom. The gathered heroes learn the truth: after being accidentally reminded of her childrens existence by , Wanda had initially only wanted to find a way to resurrect Tommy and William and sought out Dooms help. Seeking to use Wanda as a weapon, Doom led her to the Life Force, a powerful mystical energy source. According to Doom, Wanda cannot affect time and space on her own but is still inherently a nexus of magic, able to act as a conduit for different mystical forces and use their power to increase her own. Wandas attempts to tap into the Life Force increased her power a hundredfold, once again allowing her to alter reality as she had as a nexus being, but also causing her to enter a maddened state and then cause the events of Avengers Disassembled. Following the events of House of M, Doom found Wanda and manipulated her again, convincing her to be his bride.

Captain Marvel: Monica Rambeau By Roger Stern David Michelinie Dwayne Mcduffie Dwight Coye Glenn Herdling Bill Mantlo And Others

Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1985) #2

Unaware that Monica Rambeau had a stint as Captain Marvel? Well, not anymore! Not only was Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel long before Carol Danvers donned the name , she also lead the Avengers for a time. This comic is a collection of Monica Rambeaus appearances as Captain Marvel over the years, but I think we can all agree that its high time she gets her own dedicated series. You listening, Marvel? Give Monica Rambeau a solo series. Please and thank you.

A Scarlet Witch solo series that gives you a deeper look into Wandas character and powers. Something is wrong with witchcraft. While traveling the world solving magical crimes in an effort to make amends for past wrongs, Wanda searches for answers about her past and what is ailing magic. The powers and limitations of Wandas magical abilities are explored in this series, and the cost of the feats the Scarlet Witch preforms are made clear. While the first volume is a bit meh, volumes 2 and 3 World of Witchcraft and The Final Hex are great improvements both in terms of story and art.

If youre craving more Wanda after WandaVision, this solo series will help you get your fix. It also features a certain Agatha Harkness you might be interested in learning more about . Plus, this comic might help provide some much needed background on what it means to take up the mantle of the Scarlet Witch as well as chaos magic.

How Does Vision Quest Change The Vision

Though the circumstances differ slightly in comics, the results are largely the same.

The West Coast Avengers manage to recover and reassemble the Vision, though he’s reborn in a colorless body, similar to the ‘White Vision’ SWORD construct seen in WandaVision.

Despite being rebuilt, Vision isn’t exactly resurrected, as Simon Williams AKA Wonder Man, himself a founding Avenger, refuses to allow his brain patterns to be used to give the Vision a personality, as in Vision’s original comic book creation.

As a result, his personality and his emotions are gone, as are most of his memories. This drives a wedge between Vision and Wanda thanks to the effective disappearance of their romance.

The pair separate, and soon after, Wanda and Vision’s children are revealed to be magical illusions .

The story goes on much longer, with the subplot of Vision’s lost personality and emotions and the resulting breakdown of his marriage with Wanda and her overall mental health lasting for years in the Avengers franchise.

The subplot of Wanda and Vision’s lost relationship eventually made waves throughout the Marvel Universe with the one-two punch of the event stories Avengers: Disassembled and House of M, which both picked up the tragic story of Vision and Wanda in the early ’00s.

Is Vision Dead Or Alive

Both! Sort of. Wanda and Vision were always emotionally connected because they were both entangled with an Infinity Stone called the Mind Stone. Wanda was exposed to it when she was being experimented upon by HYDRA, and Vision had it living literally inside his head. In the final episode, we find out that the Vision that Wanda created in her dreamland was made from the part of the Mind Stone that still lives inside Wanda. I wouldnt take that literallyI think she basically temporarily gifted him some of the power she had gotten from the Infinity Stone herself. When Wanda destroys the Hex she destroys Vision with it.

However, there is hope that Vision will live on. Acting SWORD director Hayward created White Vision as a super-weapon and instructs him to destroy the Hex version of Vision. But while Wanda was fighting Agatha , White Vision has a philosophical debate with Hex Vision. They discuss the age-old puzzle of Theseus ship and conclude that the thing that makes any being who looks like Vision actually Vision is the memories that Vision has within him.

Hex Vision gifts his memories to White Vision, from falling in love with Wanda to dying at the hands of Thanos. White Vision then flies away to who knows where, but given that Hex Vision promises Wanda that some version of himself will see her again, expect White Vision to pop up in the MCU again.

Episode : The Toaster

Scarlet Witch VS Dark Phoenix | BATTLE ARENA | WandaVison | Marvel Comics | MCU

A housewife pops some bread into a toaster, and the machinemade by Stark Industriesbegins to beep menacingly. Even though the commercial is shot in black and white, the light on the toaster begins to flash red. In the penultimate episode, we see a young Wanda and Pietro in war-torn Sakovia. Their parents are killed, and a Stark Industries missile lands next to the orphaned children. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda said that the missile was defective: she and Pietro sat next to it for two days waiting for it to go off.

We learn that, in reality, Wanda used her nascent magical powers to protect herself and her brother. But as they lay under the bed, the missile beeped and a light on it flashed red, just like the toaster in Wandas commercial.

House Of M By Brian Michael Bendis And Olivier Coipel *

Yeah, so um, spoilers for Avengers: Disassembled below for obvious reasons. Skip ahead and just trust me on the fact that you should read this one if youre concerned about that.

One of the storylines WandaVision was clearly very inspired by. In House of M, a grief-stricken Wanda alters reality for the X-Men and Avengers after accidentally killing Vision . Admittedly, much of the talk around mental illness in this book is not handled very well. Still, this is by far one of the best storylines to come out of Marvel, showcasing Wandas incredible powers, some of the best heroes the Avengers and X-Men have to offer, and reality-bending alternate universes. Its a must-read.

Ok But Is Wanda A Witch

Sure! Lets be honest, what we name all these super-powered people is pretty arbitrarysuperhero, witch, X-Man. But, technically, shes a mutant. Time to get real nerdy.

A mutant is someone born with the X gene that gives them special abilities: Wolverine has retractable claws and healing powers Jean Grey develops telepathy and telekinesis Magneto can move metal etc. Other superheroes gain their powers later in life: Spider-Man gets bitten by a radioactive spider Captain Marvel gets her powers during an explosion involving an Infinity Stone Black Panther consumes a special herb. In the comics, Wanda and Pietro are born with their powers, which means they are mutants.

Back when Marvel Studios made Avengers: Age of Ultron, the studio didnt have the rights to the mutants, which is likely why that movie insinuates that Wanda and Pietros backstory was more superhero-y and less mutant-y. In that movie, the twins say they gained their powers from an Infinity Stone called the mind Stone when Nazi offshoot HYDRA experimented on them. Since, Disney has purchased 20th Century Fox and, thus, the X-Men. So Wanda now can be either X-Man or superhuman or, I suppose, a witch. The penultimate episode goes back and rewrites Wandas past , suggesting that she had special abilities when they were young, and those abilities were enhanced by the Infinity Stone.

Does it even really matter? Arent all superpowers basically magic anyway?

The Vision And The Scarlet Witch Have Had Marvel Comics

Meet the Visions! If you thought Wanda and Vision had a hard time fitting in with suburbia, just wait until you meet Visions new family. His new synthezoid wife was created from a brain scan of Wanda Maximoff following their breakup. Volume 2, Little Better Than a Beast, delves more deeply into that backstory. Also featuring brief cameos from Wanda and Visions children, Billy and Tommy, and a synthezoid dog named Sparky! Unfortunately, its not all sunshine and rainbows for the new family. Despite their desire to fit in with humanity, supervillains conspire against them and ultimately cause the very fallout they were attempting to prevent.

Definitely the best Vision standalone comic weve gotten so far, where we get to see both the human and inhuman side of Viz.

/10 Avengers: Disassembled Is A Foundational Modern Marvel Text

Avengers: Disassembled by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch is a very controversial text, but it is a foundational story of the modern Marvel Universe. The events of this story and the ones that followed shaped the Avengers and X-Men into what they are today.

A mysterious enemy is attacking the Avengers and striking at their weak points. It starts with the death of Ant-Man and continues through a She-Hulk rampage, the destruction of Vision, and the death of Hawkeye. The mystery of this killer’s identity leads up to one of the most shocking reveals in Marvel history.

So Is Wanda A Villain

No. Well, I dont think so, anyway. The show briefly feinted at Wanda becoming the villain. Some fans even speculated she would be the main antagonist in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Thank goodness they didnt go full evil with Wanda. A super-powered grieving woman who cant get her emotions under control ventures into uncomfortably sexist territory.

Admittedly, Wanda did sort of, kind of mind-control an entire town . But she was grieving! The woman lost two parents, a brother and a boyfriend. Then she visited the piece of land her dead boyfriend bought her to fulfill her dream of living a normal, quiet life together. The deed even had a heart on it . Of course she lost it.

To Wandas credit, she made an effort to make everyones lives in the town better. When she first drives through Westview, we see a rather downtrodden suburb with depressed citizens moping in the streetsthey likely were hit hard by the Snap. Fake Pietro points out to Wanda in the Halloween episode that she acted as humanely as possible given the circumstances, giving everyone in the town better, happier lives than they had before. Free will is overrated anyway.

The television show splits the difference: Wandas grief is real and earned, but Agatha also exploits that grief for her own evil ends.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade was written by Allen Heinberg and illustrated by Jimmy Cheung. This story serves as a backstory to the origins of Scarlet Witch and allows us to understand the character in a whole new light. This would definitely be useful to give characters more depth in the MCU. What’s more, per, it seems that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has laid the foundation for this storyline.

Avengers: Assemble Vol 1

Many of Wanda Maximoffs greatest adventures have been told in the pages of Avengers, and Kurt Busiek and George Perezs Avengers title, particularly the first 11 issues collected in Avengers: Assemble Vol. 1 , may represent the pinnacle of Wandas time with Earths Mightiest Heroes.

Busiek and Perezs Avengers followed the teams return from a pocket universe, and the initial arc wasted no time getting back to the teams business as usual. Kidnapping Wanda and tapping into her powers of chaos magic and reality manipulation, the villainous Morgan Le Fay transports every Avenger ever to that point into a Medieval world of her own making.

Wandas power allows her to summon the spirit of Wonder Man, who had been dead for some time, allowing the Avengers to escape. Just a few issues later, under the guidance of Agatha Harkness, Wanda finally opens the door to her full potential as the Scarlet Witch, fully resurrecting Wonder Man back into true physical form.

The story is a perfect showcase not just of Wandas place as the heart and soul of the Avengers for many years, but of the level of power she commands.
