How Much Do Glasses Cost At Walmart

Frames vary in price based on the materials from which theyre made. Likewise, lens prices vary based on the features your prescription requires.

Walmart Vision Center offers frames online starting at just under $10 and ranging up to $189. I used the filters online to narrow the price range and found that more than 1,000 prescription glasses areavailable for less than $100 including styles for men, women and children.

Prices vary depending on the type of lenses you choose and the frames you select. The base prices youll see for frames include clear, plastic, single-vision lenses with an anti-scratch coating.

Screenshot from Walmart Vision Center

I called my local Walmart in June 2022 to get a better idea of lens pricing since its no longer available online. I was told that while single-vision lenses are available for free, progressive no-line lenses start at $110.

Once youve chosen your prescription type, youll be able to choose from the following options beginning at these prices :

  • Clear lenses: free
  • Polarized tint: $115
  • Transition lenses: $135

Note that for prescription sunglasses, youll be able to choose from only basic or polarized tint options.

All lenses come with an anti-scratch coating at no extra charge. Additional features include no-glare coating beginning at $55 and impact-resistant lenses beginning at $60. Nikon Eyes Advanced and Customized lens options are also available for select frames beginning at $121.

The List Of Costco Optical Insurance Accepted

Costco Wholesale accepts most vision insurance plans at its in-store optical centers. However, you must be a Costco member to visit a Costco Optical center. Costco does not accept insurance for online orders of contact lenses or sunglasses, and it does not sell prescription eyeglasses online.

We researched insurance providers websites and contacted Costco Optical centers in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington to confirm that Costco takes the following national vision insurance plans:

About 10% of the Costco Optical centers we contacted said their eye doctors do not accept insurance. Optometrists at Costco are independent doctors who are not employed by Costco, so they can choose whether or not to accept insurance for their optical services. Products like glasses and contacts, however, can always be billed through insurance. Before booking an appointment, you may want to contact your local Costco to find out if the eye doctor at your intended location accepts your insurance plan.

Costco Optical centers also suggest contacting your vision insurance provider to make sure Costco is in-network.

How Much Does An Eye Exam Cost At Walmart

If you have a Walmart Vision Center nearby and you need a new or updated prescription, you may be able to schedule your eye exam there. Select vision centers have independent doctors of optometry working in offices next to Walmart.

An eye exam at Walmart costs around $85 depending on where you live. I found that the cost for an eye exam at Walmart was pretty average compared toother popular optical centers.

You should call your nearest Walmart Vision Center to get an exact price for the eye exam before scheduling. If youre being fitted for contacts or renewing your contacts prescription, you can expect an additional fee.

Note that while some optometrists are employed by Walmart, most eye exams are conducted byself-employed doctors who lease space in the stores near the vision centers.

You can book an exam by using thestore finder online and calling the number for your nearest location. According tothe website, an associate will help you set up an appointment.

Vision Center products bought online have a 30-day return window from the time theyre delivered.

Frames and lenses purchased in a store have a 60-day return window. You can also get your lenses replaced for free if a doctor changes your prescription within 60 days of your exam.

As for contacts, you can return a ripped or defective contact lens for up to 365 days after the purchase date.

Its important to note that lenses made by certain manufactures have a different defective lens return policy. Return policies frequently change, so make sure to double-check policy details before buying.

What Should I Do If My Local Walmart Vision Center Doesnt Accept Medicare

If your local Walmart vision center does not accept your Medicare plan, there are a couple of options for you. If you still want to use your Medicare coverage and purchase your eyeglasses from a Walmart vision center, research other locations that are within reasonable driving distance.

Walmart stores are abundant so it shouldnt be hard to find a location that meets your needs.

If you are not willing to drive farther than your local Walmart , check to see if they will accept any other forms of vision insurance you may have.

Even if you dont have insurance coverage, Walmart usually offers cheaper prices on eyeglasses than most optical care centers so you still may be saving money.

If you really want to use your Medicare benefits and arent married to the idea of buying your eyeglasses from Walmart , then check your local listings for other optical care centers in your area.

Many Walmart vision centers accept multiple types of insurance, including Medicare. Not every Walmart vision center is guaranteed to accept Medicare, so always call ahead or verify in person before receiving any services or products. Why Should I Use Wellcare Medicare Network Providers

Some types of Medicare Advantage plans, such as Health Maintenance Organizations , set up networks of providers who agree to treat plan members at a certain rate this system is designed to keep costs down. If you have a WellCare Medicare Advantage HMO plan, you may be required to get all your medical care from network providers . If you get care out-of-network, you may have to pay the full cost of your treatment.

With other plans, such as WellCare Medicare Advantage Preferred Provider Organization * plans, you may pay higher out-of-pocket costs if you get care from someone not in the planâs preferred provider network, and in that case:

    • Your copayment may be higher.
    • You may have to pay a higher coinsurance amount for your care. For example, if your plan pays 80% of Medicare covered costs with preferred providers, it might only pay 50% for out-of-network providers.
    • The fees charged by a non-network provider for a particular service may be higher than the fee charged by a preferred provider.

WellCare contracts with certain providers to offer you special rates for your care, usually lower than what they would charge you if you were not enrolled in a WellCare Medicare health plan. In addition, network providers and pharmacies agree to accept your copayment or coinsuranceamount as your payment in full for your Medicare covered services or prescription drugs, saving you money out-of-pocket.

    Walmart Vision Centers Reputation

    Walmart Vision Center/Part 4

Walmart Vision Centers have been the source of some controversy.

They have had to settle with the Department of Labor because of allegations that they were not paying appropriate overtime to their employees.

There has also been a class-action suit alleging that Walmart Vision Centers have been overcharging by not providing customers with the full reimbursement of their vision insurance benefits. It was alleged in this case that Walmart was getting double paid by insurance and the customer.

Additionally, there have been court suits over the treatment of optometrists and their practices.

Not sure that a Walmart Vision Center is right for you?

    Some other options include:

    • Online sellers. Companies like Liingo, Warby Parker, and Zenni offer many of the same online features as Walmart Vision Centers website. Some have their own features like the ability to see what you would look like in the glasses online and free mail try-on programs.
    • Vision retailers. There are other retailers like Costco Vision Centers, Target Vision, and LensCrafters that offer similar services and products for in-person shopping and vision checks.

If youre interested in supporting small businesses or want more personalized care, local eye doctors offices are a place you can get an eye exam, new frames, and order contact lenses.
